Paulina Rubio - Causa Y Efecto
On my fourteen hour drive back from Nebraska last week, my iPod decided to die on my somewhere around hour seven. This unfortunate incident forced me to scan the radio dials just to listen in on what was popular in the world. Somewhere along the Texas/Oklahoma border, I found this pretty amazing Spanish rock n’ roll/pop station that was playing non-Tejano tunes. When the station played this one, my ears picked it up instantly due to the drum sample from Gary Glitter’s “Rock and Roll Part 2”.
I find this sample to be quite interesting as no U.S. artist would ever dare to sample anything from Mr. Glitter after a worldwide blacklisting due to his conviction for child pornography. In 2008, HP took some heat for using Joan Jett’s cover of one of Glitter’s songs “Do You Wanna Touch Me” for an advertisement for their TouchSmart computers. The idea of a mega popstar using a Glitter song without flack is a bit strange to see.
